Medium Is the Latest Platform to Become Infiltrated by the Extreme Left

And it Isn't Only People on the Right Being Censored

In an era of censorship largely promulgated by extremists posing as “Radical Left,” writers of politics and social commentary often wonder what administration of which platform will next be hit by what seems to be a pervasive, emotionally driven contagion. And just when many writers of several different political and ideological persuasions became comfortable with publishing on Medium, it seems their administration has now been afflicted with this psychic virogen.

In particular, the administration of Medium has now called a moratorium on written opposition to the “gender affirmation” trend that is now posing a major threat to our youth. As a nearly lifelong youth liberationist, I am of course heavily concerned about this usually-not-recognized minority group who has no substantial civil libertarian support since the ongoing moral panics ensuing since the 1980s put paid to a robust liberation movement strongly connected with the Left of that era during the 1970s with the dedicated Ann Arbor crew, and again to the second phase of the movement when it emerged with the Internet during the late ‘90s. As a result, youths remain bereft of civil liberties that make them captive audiences of the mandatory schooling system and the whims of the adult teachers who carry out the directives of an authoritarian school board, and forced to only access information that these adults declare “appropriate for kids.”

This includes adult teachers who are extremist activists and attempt to take advantage of this situation by imposing what can only be described as a form of social engineering on young people from an early point in their intellectual development, so that they accept it as “normal.” These nefarious activists likewise take advantage of the fact that elementary school kids and particularly teens are more emotionally troubled than ever, largely due to this state of affairs and a society that has gone off the rails. Is it any wonder that they are susceptible to any proposed “solution” to their issues that are heavily promoted at school and by both “trans” adult activists and their own peers all over TikTok?

This agenda is largely motivated by the Extreme Left’s loathing of two aspects of the natural world that does not sit well with their biases. One is heterosexuality, and specifically what they call “heteronormativity,” which is an activist-friendly slur for their distaste over the fact that attraction for the opposition sex (only) is the attraction base for the majority of humanity. The other is their dislike for what they call “cis-genderism” (or variations thereof), which is the phenomenon of the majority of people identifying with the biological sex they were born with (or “assigned at birth,” as they call it with obvious disapproval).

So, What Are Their Actual Intentions?

The purpose of these activists appears to be an agenda designed to diminish this natural numerical majority by manufacturing synthetic LGBTs by convincing as many kids as possible via their captive audience status that their emotional issues or social interests not considered typical for their gender to mean they might actually be homosexual (or at least bisexual); or they may actually be the opposite gender on a deep level, or possibly “non-binary” (i.e., no gender at all). The idea is apparently to make them believe that heterosexuality is a social construct of mean-spirited oppressors, and that gender is likewise just a social construct and is actually part of a universally fluid “spectrum.”

Even youths who are becoming aware that they are naturally homosexual or bisexual are caught up in this plan, being told they may actually be “trans.” Gender dysphoria is a real phenomenon, but it’s exceedingly rare, with barely 1% of the population developing this way due to natural forces. With currently almost 30% of youths identifying as LGBT, including many as trans or non-binary, it’s clear that over 5% of these young people are victims and/or promoters of a social trend that is used to both deal with emotional issues and to acquire approval of a relatively small but very loud ideological camp who have no tolerance and no mercy for anyone who deviates from their school of thought.

Worst of all, are the activists posing as therapists and medical authorities who have now created the trend and bogus field of “gender affirmation.” Their job — that is, self-appointed mission— is to bully legit experts in the fields of medical and therapeutic sciences to take all claims from kids and young teens that they are trans or non-binary at face value.

The next step is to encourage them to receive experimental hormonal puberty blockers to attempt to suppress the natural development of secondary sexual characteristics and radical, irreversible cosmetic surgical procedures to remove breasts (and sometimes even nipples!) and alter genital tissue to create non-functional penis-like constructs to create at least the idea that there is “something down there.” Since youths lack sufficient tissue already extant down there to work with and genital alteration is still highly experimental for them, this tends to require a large chunk of skin being removed from the arms to provide the necessary material… leaving a permanent deformity that these kids often proudly display to the world on TikTok, along with their now flat chests and missing nipples.

All of this without the traditionally stringent but objective therapeutic protocols to determine a genuine case of gender dysphoria, where surgical alteration and hormonal injections may be likely to have a long-range benefit to the mental health and self-esteem of the individuals under care. This being limited to adults who are less likely to be going through an emotional crisis that will make opposite gender (or “no gender”) identification to be a temporary means of dealing with their issues, and are less likely to be harmed by radical surgical procedures on a healthy body and a regimen of body-altering hormones.

These protocols have been the norm for trans people considering a physical transition to beneficial effect without complaint for decades… until now.

Medical professionals who object on solid scientific and ethical grounds are bullied into either complying with the agenda or keeping quiet, lest they be labeled “hateful” or “transphobic.” This can lead to mass public shaming on social media by the Extreme Left cyber-mobs (including doxxing and threats) and the ruination of their careers.

This opposition is important to be expressed and heard, as this article from the mainstream-as-it-gets New York Post makes it clear how deep the regret factor runs from kids who feel compelled to take on a “trans,” “non-binary,” or even general LGBT identity by social trending and peer pressure due to the pervasiveness of Extreme Left ideology all over social media such as TikTok and Tumblr… and to physically transition on a whim.

As noted in the article:

Dr. Lisa Littman, a former professor of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Brown University, coined the term “rapid onset gender dysphoria” to describe this subset of transgender youth, typically biological females who become suddenly dysphoric during or shortly after puberty. Littman believes this may be due to adolescent girls’ susceptibility to peer influence on social media.

Not to mention the influence of adult activists posing as teachers and therapists.

Helena Kerschner, a 23-year-old detransitioner from Cincinnati, Ohio, who was born a biological female, first felt gender dysphoric at age 14. She says Tumblr sites filled with transgender activist content spurred her transition.

“I was going through a period where I was just really isolated at school, so I turned to the Internet,” she recalled. In her real life, Kerschner had a falling out with friends at school; online however, she found a community that welcomed her. “My dysphoria was definitely triggered by this online community. I never thought about my gender or had a problem with being a girl before going on Tumblr.”

She said she felt political pressure to transition, too. “The community was very social justice-y. There was a lot of negativity around being a cis, heterosexual, white girl, and I took those messages really, really personally.”

Are They Really About Helping Marginzalized People?

In other words, SJWs from the Extreme Left promoting hatred against “cis-heterosexuality,” not to mention white people, is resulting in destructive and regressive social trends, with younger people in particular feeling pressured to pretend to be members of marginalized groups much as in the past genuine members of the latter demographics felt compelled to pretend to be “cis-hetero.” The hatreds and biases of the past went from being relatively dismissed from Western society a decade ago to being inverted once the postmodernist Regressive Left ideology rose to prominence in a remarkably short period of time. And contemporary liberals are now promoting this hatred and “turnabout” mentality under the guise of “support for LGBT rights” or “trans rights” or “trans kids” etc.

Of course, Medium is filled with gender-affirming liberals. That is an issue, but not the serious one, because these individuals should have the right to say whatever the hell they want to say. The problem is a growing number of platform administrations becoming infiltrated by censorship-loving Extreme Leftists who do not extend the same courtesy to individuals who present reasonably crafted objections to this phenomenon (and to the Extreme Left agenda or identity politics in general).

The Day the Censorship Bell Tolls for Me… and Eventually, for Thee

This leads to an article on Medium that I expressed some objections to in the comments section, which lead to a short exchange with one of her other commenters as well. I feel that my statements were cordial and well-reasoned, and that they needed to be said. However, either that commenter or another one who was lurking rather than participating reported me to the administration, and I received that aforementioned form letter telling me of the suspension of my comments along with a stern warning to never challenge that orthodoxy on Medium again lest sterner measures be taken against me.

I then soon discovered that lawyer, author, and social activist Monica Harris was likewise censored on Medium for an article expressing similar views. And Monica is herself a black lesbian woman, checking three of the Left identity marginalization boxes! She too is dedicated to Classic Left principles, and reported this situation here on Substack, where the Extreme Left censorship demons are kept at bay.

This prompted me to copy my exchange in that comments section in Monica’s comments section, and now here to my first article on Substack, to bring them under fair public scrutiny to let individual readers decide for themselves if they were “hateful” towards trans people or reasonably stated.

For the sake of brevity and greater relevance, I will leave out the points I made to the author regarding her snide attitude towards men, which never seems to be a problem for any administrator on Medium, and instead focus on my disagreements over the “gender affirmation” trend. My statements to the author (article linked above) and the commenter will be in quotes, whereas those of the commenter I responded to will be italicized. Please note how I clearly made my responses from the perspective of a Classical Leftist, and not a conservative. They will only be edited for grammar and a few direct author identifying details.

“For one thing, the trans community was making great strides towards acceptance by the 2000s... which was great. The social conservatives were backing down, which was terrific. But then, circa 2010s, they hit a snag... because the Mainstream Liberals had to start going crazy about the issue, getting ‘in your face’ about it, pushing an agenda that tried to convince numerous young people they were ‘trans’ and to have their bodies carved up and injected with experimental hormones simply due to emotional issues or common doubts about their sense of identity and sexuality... and to try pushing the narrative that trans people were not rare (as you acknowledge) but make up a huge minority. It was part of the liberal agenda to demonize ‘heteronormativity’ and try to denounce the very concept of gender.

“This was not the fault of trans people, as most of them are normies who want simple acceptance and equality and are happy to do it the right way, which was working for them. They are content with the fact that they are a rare demographic, as long as they are treated as respectfully as the majority demographic. They are also perfectly reasonable about going through certain medical evaluations to ensure that surgically altering and hormonally modifying a healthy human body is warranted and not likely to come back to bite them.

“Now, let me give you credit where it's due... you are not batshit crazy about this matter. However, you do overlook the complicity of the Mainstream Liberal agenda that has caused a lot of these problems and provoked the social conservatives to start their shit again... and, as a member of the Classical Left who wants to see continued acceptance for trans people without having them exploited to push an insane agenda disguised as a means of "advancing" their rights and reclaim the Left from what the liberals have become, I am not going to give them the free pass for this and blame only the conservatives. The conservative social agenda can be kept at bay, but part of that requires keeping the liberal agenda of social engineering at bay too. That's where we on the Classical Left come in, and why I think our perspective is necessary.

“You made many good points. However, the question of ‘what constitutes a man?’ depends on how you want to define the criteria. There is a reasonable, objective biological answer to that question, which does indeed have to do with the presence or absence of a penis, a vagina, breasts capable of feeding an infant, a womb, etc.

“If you want to bring the definition into an entirely social context, that is fine. But it does not negate the reality of biology, and I think it poses good questions about biological men who identify socially and emotionally as women sharing prisons with biological women, sharing bathrooms, and competing in professional sports in areas where biological women perform. These are legit debates to have, and asking these questions do not automatically denote bigotry, nor are they indicative of a conservative social agenda.

“What we need is an outright civil libertarian agenda that is fair to all sides of reasonable questions and all demographics sans any hatred or bitterness towards any of them. Both social conservatives and those with a contemporary mainstream liberal agenda fall short of that civil libertarian mark and are more intent on advancing one demographic at the expense of another rather than being fair to all sections of every aisle, so to speak.”

Then came the following response from one of the author’s readers.

I do not believe that anyone is pushing young people into being trans by a prescribed agenda. Young people are questioning, more and more, the significance of gender roles because the traditional ones do not apply so rigidly. Liberals are typically more accepting of questioning gender roles, whereas conservatives are usually not open to this and use the Bible as some sort of basis for their opinions.

“Alas, I cannot agree with the liberal assessment of the situation that you mention. There are numerous examples of elementary schools pushing this sort of agenda and telling kids, who are currently captive audiences of the mandatory schooling system, that they are ‘likely’ to be trans, or gay, or non-binary if they have any type of emotional issues; or if they happen to have aesthetic interests commonly attributed to the opposite gender in our culture; or just in general in a misguided, authoritarian, and very politically motivated attempt to oppose ‘heteronormativity' and established gender roles.

“The latter is a clear attempt to actually utilize a form of social engineering to manufacture synthetic LGBTQ folks and even to eliminate the very scientific conception of gender.

“The great majority of LGBTQs have no interest in identity politics or imposing their feelings on anyone else, and are content with letting kids find out for themselves what their predilections may be; and if they genuinely suspect they have such feelings, to look up the relevant info on it themselves, which can be readily provided by value-netural support services dedicated to scientific objectivity with no political agenda.

“Moreover, there is now an actual profession called ‘gender affirmation’ that is filled with social workers and therapists motivated by the SJW agenda. They actually exert pressure on doctors and surgeons to inject young teens with experimental puberty-suppressing hormones and [various] forms of cosmetic surgery without requiring them to undergo reasonable medical assessment to determine if they possess a genuine case of gender dysmorphia and would likely benefit from the radical medical/surgical alteration of a healthy body over the long term, as has been the standard medical procedure for decades.

“Any doctor who protests on reasonable medical grounds are shamed and attacked as ‘transphobic.’ So are activists and journalists motivated by civil libertarian concerns.”

Young people are questioning, more and more, the significance of gender roles because the traditional ones do not apply so rigidly.

“True. I was among such kids before it became fashionable to do so. However, like many such kids (not all), I correctly saw myself as a heterosexual male who simply did not conform to all expected gender roles or attributes, such as an interest in sports and cars. At the time, I was not pressured into thinking that this meant I might actually be a girl, or gay, or trans, or ‘non-binary,’ etc.

“That was fortuitous, since it turned out that me, and many others who broke such rules of gender expectations back then, were nothing of the such. This agenda was also not around back then to try and convince naturally gay or lesbian students that they might be trans or non-binary. This is the perspective that Classical Leftists like myself are trying to convey and return [society] to.

"Liberals are typically more accepting of questioning gender roles, whereas conservatives are usually not open to this and use the Bible as some sort of basis for their opinions."

“That is how liberals used to be, before the SJWs subsumed and tainted the political tendency over the last two decades, and the Mainstream Left morphed into something that is a dark caricature to what it used to be. Now, they push a very authoritarian agenda based on hatred of white male heterosexuals but disguised (very poorly) as a means of promoting "tolerance and diversity."

“Moreover, they are supported and sanctioned by the Democrats and many corporations for the purpose of getting the working class to fight amongst each other and distract us from extremely important economic issues and destructive policies like perpetual war that affect us all. This way, we finger-point at each other rather than at the system and its mere handful of actual beneficiaries. It also encourages liberals in large numbers to continue supporting capitalist politicians as long as they happen to be registered Democrats.

“Also, and importantly, people who object to this agenda are not all conservatives motivated by the Bible. Many are Classical [Leftists] like myself, or more moderate conservatives, strong civil libertarians, or people who subscribe to no stringent political or religious ideology, who are opposed to identity politics and the imposition of its authoritarian tenets on adults and kids alike. Especially with kids, because they currently lack the civil rights to resist these impositions as effectively as adults.

“Unfortunately, contemporary liberals are conditioned to overlook these problems or not see them as an issue when they crop up, and to dismiss all opposition to them as examples of conservative/Christian bigotry. This is not the case, which I am here pointing out.”

The following are my words on the matter to Monica Harris in my comment to her previously cited Substack article describing her own censoring on Medium for dealing with the same topic and espousing a similar stance to my own:

Now, you and the rest of your readers can read what I said, along with the article and comment I responded to. Please tell me how in the name of reason either of those two comments of mine were ‘hateful’ or ‘disempowering’ to trans people, or even LGBTQ people in general? And why are trans characteristics considered “protected,” i.e., above all criticism? Now Medium is doing this too?

I strongly encourage everyone who reads this to speak up and to abandon Medium in favor of Substack, because it seems the former is rapidly becoming yet another Mainstream Liberal echo chamber.

Censorship of this sort is not democratic by any traditional definition of the term. Why not simply let my comments be left to public scrutiny, so people can decide for themselves if I am truly being ‘hateful’ or ‘disempowering’ to trans folks or any other ‘marginalized’ group?”

I shall let every writer who wants to broach this topic decide that for themselves.

That, in turn, led to my meeting and forming a coalition with several other authors who were likewise censored on Medium (and elsewhere). We have banded together to co-author an article pushing back on both the “gender affirmation” trend, the social contagion behind it being spread by a batshit crazy faction of the Left, and the growing censorship regime of the latter ideological proponents that has now made its way to Medium (at least in regards to this particular issue… so far). So, look for it soon!

At the same time, I urge all readers and writers who respect the actual precepts of Democracy and have a genuine concern for scientific objectivity over belef-based narratives driven by ideological agendas to join us in this protest before things go even farther.

Accordingly, I recommend supporting Substack and any other platform dedicated to preserving freedom of speech, as well as building more of them. Regarding this topic, I highly recommend Monica Harris’ substack The Bigger Picture and Christina Buttons’ buttonslives.
